Ride along the Back of the Dragon

May 25 - May 27
Back of the Dragon 05/25/2019

About an hour south of Roanoke, Virginia are two small towns – Marion and Tazewell –that have a section of route 16 between them. This 32 mile stretch of winding, scenic, turning road is known as the “Back of the Dragon”. Not as treacherous as the fabled Tail of the Dragon (not as far to drive, either), and nestled within scores of other winding, scenic roads travelling through the Jefferson National Forest, route 16 has sprung up in recent years as a new riding location for motorcyclists.

Join your friends in District HOG as we take a three-day, two-night trip to ride the Back of the Dragon and surrounding area. We will depart at 8am on Saturday May 25 and travel some highway, but mostly scenic by-ways, down to Marion, VA and check in to our hotel. It hasa pool to relax in and we’ll grab dinner as a group. Sunday morning we wake and head out to try the Back of the Dragon and the other mountain roads the forest has to offer. We’ll findlunch on the road and spend the whole day riding, taking it easy and enjoying the twisting roadson our Harleys. Monday morning is Memorial Day, and we’ll head for home, again taking scenicroads as well as highway, with a goal of being back in Montgomery County around 3pm.

If you have Memorial Day off, then you don’t need to take any time off from work to goon this trip! What do you need to do to go on this trip? Just make your reservation at the inexpensive hotel we found ($59 a night ($66.67 after tax) and then get yourself ready for a road trip! There is no registration or additional fees. Call Red Roof at (276) 378-0481 and tellthem you’re with District HOG and get a room for 2 nights, the 25th and 26th. You can cancel up to 30 days before the event, credit cards will be charged on April 25, 2019.
